Helicopter In Flight With Light  Paramedics save lives  Helicopter landing on a road

Did you know that if you see an air ambulance helicopter in the UK, it is being run by a charity rather than government?

The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust is a registered charity which provides a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS). With two helicopters the charity can cover the counties of Kent, Surrey and Sussex, giving each county its own Air Ambulance Service.

Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance is the only Air Ambulance service in these three counties.

Our highly skilled doctor and paramedics bring to the scene the type of expertise and equipment normally only found in the resuscitation area of a hospitals emergency department. Rapid response and early intervention not only saves lives but can also have a positive impact on the quality of a patient’s survival to a considerable degree.

The service is operational 365 days a year and funded almost entirely by donations.

The helicopters respond to an average of between four and six incidents a day. Of these 41% are road traffic crashes and 25% are medical emergencies such as cardiac arrest and strokes. However they also respond to a wide range of serious and life threatening incidents.
